According to archaeological experts flat-bottomed Crikvenica Adriatic amphora is the official name for the unique type of amphora discovered at the playground – Ad turres archaeological locality in Crikvenica.

It is a subtype of the Roman antique amphora with a flat bottom. Another peculiarity of amphoras belonging to the Crikvenica type is that they were produced exclusively in the big ceramist's workshop Ad turres (ancient name of present-day Crikvenica).

Such a developed workshop, an exceptionally well preserved archaeological locality even for European standards, indicates that in the course of the 1st and 2nd centuries Crikvenica was a well developed economic centre of the north Adriatic area.

Besides the site itself, this is also confirmed by the numerous workshop products discovered all along the Adriatic coast, as the best evidence of well developed commercial and economic activities in this region.  Years' long archeological studies on the Ad turres site have so far confirmed the existence of seven ceramist's ovens and a whole series of other manufacturing spaces.
