Cres semenj, as the fair is called in the local dialect, and is traditionally associated with the feast of St. Mary of the Snow, was first mentioned in the Decree of the Republic of Venice on August 14, 1543. At that time, the Semenj lasted for a whole week and everything that was delivered to Cres during those days was sold it was relased from paying taxes.The Cres fair today is the finale of summer events on the island of Cres, during which people socialize and sing in the streets and taverns, trade on the promenade what was produced by the hardworking hands of local people, as well as dear guests from the rest of Croatia. From August 5th to 7th, walk through the streets, squares and alleys of Cres, find interesting outdoor exhibitions, learn more about the rich history and traditions of Cres, visit the fair of authentic products, try your luck at sports tournaments, play bingo, taste Cres gastronomic specialties and have fun.
